Martin Lambie-Nairn wins Honorary Doctorate
22 July 2010 Jim Harrison,
The University of Northampton honoured Heavenly’s Creative Director, Martin Lambie-Nairn, with an Honorary Doctorate this week at their final day of graduation ceremonies which celebrated the success of students from the University’s School of The Arts.
Speaking at the ceremony, Martin said that he was “flattered” to have received the honour and advised the graduates there that “professional success is not dependent on what you can do... but how you do it. What gives you competitive advantage is related to character... we live in a culture of 'me first’, but the people who develop long and successful careers are those who are nearly always modest, self-effacing, considerate, kind, honest, brave and sometimes... funny. Not all of us can be funny. But all of us can do the other stuff.''
Northampton University’s Honorary Doctorate is the second that Martin has received, having previously been presented with one by the University of Lincoln, where he is visiting Professor at the Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design.
